About Sarah Dunlap
If you have made it this far into your therapeutic journey, I congratulate you. It takes courage to acknowledge that you may need a little help in life. Therapy is not a job for me; it is a passion! It is both a joy and a privilege to accompany my clients on their personal journeys toward a healthier, happier life.
How Do I View Therapy?
Because I understand that we are living in a constantly busy world, I envision therapy as a time for my clients to regroup, reflect, and tackle their issues in a safe, calm, and non-judgmental environment. It is vital to find a therapist that you feel comfortable with, that you believe understands you, that you can laugh with, and most importantly that you can trust. My clients find that I am an empathetic listener with a warm and direct approach. I am not only focused on your long-term goals for therapy, but what you need at that moment. I practice from a Systems based collaborative stance, but often will draw on numerous different therapeutic theories to provide people with what they need in the room.
Who Do I Work With?
I have a deep respect and admiration for anyone who chooses to reach out for help, no matter the issue. I have been able to practice in numerous environments, including private practice, nonprofits, elementary schools, boarding schools, and telehealth. Due to this, I have had experiences with clients who present with problems ranging from marriage/relationship issues, parenting conflicts, teenage behavioral troubles, substance use, LGBTQ+ identity struggles, and those that are kink-curious.
Qualifications:
I graduated with my M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Louisiana - Monroe in 2009. I went on to pursue my PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy from the same university. I focused my research on the evolution of human communication via technology.
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Texas (#202983) and a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Supervisor in the state of Texas.
